Robotics Club
According to the US Department of Education, the job market for those skilled in robotics and other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) subjects is excellent, but only 16 percent of high school seniors are interested in STEM careers and have the necessary skills to pursue
them. STEM skills are incorporated in the Communities in Schools program Jacksonville robotics club. Students have the opportunity to work on hands on projects that get them thinking and using creativity to engineer their own robots.

Public Speaking
No matter the age, public speaking is a difficult skill. In this class, strategies are learned to become an effective and confident public speaker. Being able to speak effectively in front of peers about a variety of topics gives students amazing self confidence they can apply in other situations.
CPR Certification

Symphony String Instruments
Most children love music and are quick to pick up a musical instrument, and there’s evidence that music education has positive effects on other aspects of learning and language. The Jump Start Strings program, in partnership with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, provides an opportunity for elementary school students to learn to play stringed instruments under the instruction of the orchestra musicians. Children have fun in these classes, but they also learn valuable subject matter and life skills such as communicating, problem solving, and using creativity. They also learn to trust others and to enjoy mentally stimulating and challenging tasks. All of this builds self confidence. The skills and character qualities learned in these classes can provide a foundation for a successful future in a variety of careers.
